First Phase - Second Week

On 25th September, there was a school assembly conducted by students of class 8B. Prayer, Pledge, Quiz, News, National Anthem and a small talk on Kumaranasan were included in it. I had class in the second period. I asked about the follow-up activities done by students. Six of them gave me the notebook for correction. Although they had written the materials, there were a lot of spelling and syntactical errors.

On 26th, I had class in the fourth period. In the second period, Bincy and I had to observe the students who were doing their practice for the Youth Festival. At the same time, there was the Drawing Competition. In the third period, I had to engage in class 8C with Sankeerthana. I also got a chance to engage my class in the fifth period. In the fifth period, I explained to them some common errors that were found in the notebook. I believe this encouraged them to write the follow-up activity. The next day almost 10 more students gave me their notebooks for correction.

Students of 9D

On the 27th, there was an assembly of the whole school. It was a historic moment for the school. A teacher who has been teaching here for 12 years shared that, there was no common assembly over these years in which the students of HS, HSS and VHSE stood together for an assembly. I got to correct 10 more notebooks. From reading it, I found that almost all students have the ability to write well, but most of them have problems with grammar. In the sixth period, I took class and it was full of noise. I need to gain the ability to manage the classroom well.

The school-level Youth Festival was conducted on the 28th. There were three stages: VHSE Hall, Mess Hall and a class in HS block. In the VHSE hall, events like Thiruvathira, Bharatanatyam, Nadan Pattu, Vatta Pattu etc. were conducted. Music events like Light music, Instruments, Mappilappattu etc. were conducted in the Mess Hall while Literary events like Recitation and Elocution were conducted in HS block.

On the 30th, I had class in the seventh period. However, I also had to engage students of class 9A since a teacher was absent. A thing that surprised me today was that Kevin one of my students asked me to check his notebook and make necessary corrections. With this, I came to realize that students are developing an interest in my classes.

First Phase - First Week

The first phase of the internship began on 18th September. I am allotted to Govt. Boys' HSS, Kottarakkara.

On 18/9/23, I reached the school early in the morning. There was an assembly in Sanskrit as part of Sanskrit day observed on Sravana Poornima. I got the timetable from the English teacher, Ms. Prabitha. In the second period, I had my first class in 9D. The teacher was also with me. She introduced me to the students and sat on the last bench throughout the class. I was asked to engage the students of class 8A and 10A. There was also a Social Science Quiz conducted in the school.

On 19/9/23, I had class in the fourth period. But I had a substitution period in 8C in the second period. I thought of engaging them with some grammar activities. But they were busy with some classwork. Some were writing notes, while others were making the models for the upcoming Science Fest.

On 20/9/23, I had an eye-opening experience. I reached the school early in the morning. A child of around 15 years old was there in the school. He stopped learning after class 8 due to some difficulties in his family and was working in a bakery. But he had a deep thirst for knowledge and wanted to continue. So he came to meet the Head Master to seek permission to continue his studies. In the sixth period, I had my class in 9D. It was a grammar class. The class was almost silent and there were only 31 students. Students co-operated well with all the activities.

On 21/9/23, the school assembly was conducted by students of class 8A. It had a prayer, the pledge, a quiz, a folk song, a talk on Vallathol Narayana Menon and the National Anthem. Moreover, it was announced in the assembly that the school won 1st prize in Quiz and 2nd prize in Patriotic Song I had the class in the seventh period. The students were completely in sleepy mode when I entered the classroom. So I introduced the beginning of a new chapter and the students listened completely.

23/9/23 was a working day since the 22nd was a holiday. In the third period, I had a class in 9D. I continued the chapter "Listen to the Mountain". The students were interested in the slides shown. It was a rainy day and I had to engage the same class in the 6th period. They had Physical Education classes but they were restricted from physical activities because of the heavy rain. In addition to this, I had to engage class 10A along with Sankeerthana.
